Ocmulgee Public Fishing Area is a 106-acre Georgia DNR lake in Bleckley County between Hawkinsville and Cochran, managed for largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish and crappie. Standing timber was left along the outside edges when the lake was rebuilt, and depths run to about 25 feet along the old creek bed that runs the length of the lake to the dam. Our breakdown marks 62 waypoints, including 29 fish attractors, 14 cover and structure spots (brush, debris, standing timber and the dam), 7 rock and boulder spots, 4 offshore points and hard spots, 4 drains, 3 submerged road marks and the boat ramp, plus three traced creek channels and a ditch.

Many of the best spots sit in shallow or timber-filled water — idle in, watch your depth, and never run a straight line between waypoints at speed.
- You are the captain. Keep a proper lookout and run at a safe speed for the conditions, especially at night or in low light.
- GPS data can't guarantee obstacle clearance. Lake levels and structure change; a waypoint shows where something is, not that the water around it is safe.
