Smithville Lake is a 7,190-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir with roughly 175 miles of shoreline in Clay and Clinton counties, just north of Kansas City. Smithville Dam was completed on the Little Platte River in 1977, and the lake is known for largemouth bass, white bass, black and white crappie, walleye, channel catfish and flathead catfish.
